The Greenwich Symphony Orchestra (GSO) presents a series of five weekend concerts each year. Identical concerts take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. The first weekend series will take place on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, the weekend following Labor Day.

The GSO Board welcomes a new conductor and music director, Stuart Malina, to lead GSO’s family of wonderful classical music professionals. Stuart has an excellent classical music background as well as advanced university degrees, with degrees from Harvard, Yale and the Curtis Institute. Among his many accomplishments is a Tony Award for his orchestration with Billy Joel of the Broadway musical “Movin’ Out.” The Board is thrilled to celebrate BSG’s 64th season with Stuart Malina!

During her first two concerts this season, Malina will conduct and be the pianist interpreter of “Rhapsody in Blue” by American composer George Gershwin. This piece, so familiar to many, is an audience favourite. Regulars of the BSG concert series know how special this welcome concert will be and can’t wait to hear Malina lead the keyboards. If you are new to the Greenwich classical music scene or have never been to a classical music performance, the GSO Board invites you to join the orchestra in their home for a wonderful Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon. Best of all, you needn’t travel farther than 10 Hillside Road along Post Road in central Greenwich, where easy parking is readily available just steps from the glass-enclosed entrance and Galleria lobby.

For more information and to purchase tickets, go to www.greenwichsymphony.org/. Tickets are only about 15% of the annual concert season costs. G.S.O. tickets are $40 for an individual concert ($10 for students) and $175 for a five-concert season. The Board of Directors has maintained its fixed prices this season for your enjoyment and to welcome the new Music Director.

The venue for these exciting performances is the Performing Arts Center at Greenwich High School (PAC). The PAC was designed for superior sound. Critics when it opened cited it as the best concert hall between Boston and New York, and as “the cathedral of sound.” The five concert conductors interviewed over the past year to be the permanent conductor and musical director confirmed the excellent acoustics of the PAC and expressed their pleasure in performing there. These are truly wonderful concerts of great music, without the trip to New York.

Please join the Board of Directors as well as many of your Performing Arts Center neighbors in welcoming Stuart Malina for a very special concert and season.

Peter J. Tesei, Leslie L. Tarkington and Lenore de Csepel serve on the board of the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra Inc.
