WILLOW reveals her rock opera ambitions at Reading 2022
WILLOW made her main stage debut at the Reading Festival today (Sunday August 28) – revealing her ambition to one day make a ‘rock opera’.
Delivering heavy cuts from her acclaimed fourth studio album, “Lately I Feel Everything,” the rocker kicked off with her viral TikTok hit “Transparents.”
Then, she told the crowd about her unlikely dream: “I know it’s not a popular opinion – my opinions aren’t often popular – but I would like to do a rock opera someday.”
She joked about niche ambition before performing a guitar-heavy version of ‘Lipstick’, adding: ‘No one has to shout. No one should applaud. I know it’s not something people think about on a daily basis. But if I ever had to do a rock opera, this song would have to be there”.
The 21-year-old has just finished opening for Machine Gun Kelly and Billie Eilish on their respective tours. Recalling the experience, she told the audience, “Damn, so I just got off a tour where I was playing a lot of rooms on the ceiling. I couldn’t see the sky. There was no fresh air. It wasn’t like that.
“That’s how music is meant to be; in nature, looking at the sky, the trees. Just being here so vulnerable to all of us.
The Reading Festival ends today, with The 1975, Halsey and Charli XCX while Bring Me The Horizon, Wolf Alice and Arctic Monkeys are set to close the Leeds Festival.
