press release: The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras (WYSO) will present their Spring 2022 concert series at the Hamel Music Center beginning Sunday, May 22 and continuing on Friday, May 27.
Among the amazing offers:
Three WYSO Concerto winners perform solo with the Percussion Ensemble (1:00 a.m. concert on May 22 will feature marimbist Anais Griffith-Oh), Philharmonia Orchestra (7:00 a.m. concert on May 22 will feature cellist Katarina Kenney) and the Youth Orchestra (7:00 a.m. concert on May 27 will feature violinist Ava Kenney).
A tribute concert to beloved WYSO conductor Mark Leiser, who passed away in 2021, will feature a new composition commissioned by international composer Donald Fraser, with the world premiere at the Sinfonietta concert (4:00 a.m. May 22).
The concert on May 22 at 7:00 a.m. will be a side-by-side performance of the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, honoring a long tradition in the orchestral world.
The always-impressive WYSO Youth Orchestra will perform on Sunday, May 27, picking up the canceled 2020 concert at Le Hamel (when the state closed due to COVID), and redeeming last year’s spring concert held outside under a tent in a parking lot.
