The Bolshoi Theater to organize the world premiere of the ballet The Master and Margarita – society & culture
MOSCOW, December 1. / TASS /. The Bolshoi Theater in Moscow will present on Wednesday the world premiere of the ballet The Master and Margarita, based on the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, directed by Romanian choreographer Edward Clug. The music is written by Slovenian composer Milko Lazar, who used parts written by Alfred Schnittke. The series of preview shows will take place from December 1-5, Bolshoi press secretary Katerina Novikova told TASS.
The world premiere of the ballet The Master and Margarita was scheduled to take place last season, but was postponed due to the pandemic. Famous Romanian choreographer Edward Clug, conductor of the Maribor ballet troupe, staged the show with his own lyrics. This is his for the second time with the Bolshoi Troupe – in 2018 he staged the Petrushka ballet to the music of Igor Stravinsky, “said the spokesperson.
She noted that the stage group also includes set designer Marko Japelj, costume designer Leo Kulas, lighting designer Martin Gebhardt; Anton Grishanin is the conductor of the show. The main roles will be performed by the main soloists of the Bolshoi.
During a press briefing before the premiere, Clug thanked the Bolshoi for “the opportunity to stage a ballet based on one of the most valuable works in world literature”.
